# YouTube
> Announce new uploads from the YouTube creators you follow, each with its own Discord channel, message and filters.
**Socials → YouTube** posts to your server whenever a YouTube channel you follow uploads a video.
YouTube tells the bot the moment a video goes up, so posts land within seconds. There is nothing to refresh and no polling interval to configure.
## How it works
Paste a YouTube channel link, an `@handle`, or a `UC…` channel ID and click **Add channel**. The bot looks up the channel's real name and avatar for you, and refuses anything it can't find — so a typo can never sit in your list pretending to work. How many channels you can watch depends on your tier (see below).
Pick the Discord channel to post in, optionally a **ping role**, choose which kinds of upload to announce, and write the message. Then click **Save channel**.
The row's dot turns green once YouTube confirms the connection — usually within a minute. From then on every new upload posts automatically.
**One YouTube channel = one row = one message.** Every watched channel carries its own Discord channel, ping role, filters and message, so a gaming channel can post to `#videos` while a news channel posts to `#announcements` with a different template.
Only videos uploaded **after** you add a channel are announced. Adding a creator never replays their back catalogue.
## The channel list
The list on the left is the index. Each row shows the creator, where it posts, and when it last posted. The coloured dot is the row's status:

| Teal | Checking | Working, but instant alerts aren't available on this server, so uploads are picked up by a periodic check instead. They arrive a little later; nothing is missed. |
| Amber | Connecting | Waiting for YouTube to confirm the connection. Usually under a minute. |
| Amber | Not started | The bot hasn't picked this channel up. Check the bot is running. |
| Red | Not connecting | YouTube keeps refusing the subscription — the row names the reason. Uploads still arrive via the periodic check meanwhile. |
| Blue | Needs a channel | Pick a Discord channel and save to finish setting it up. |
| Grey | Paused | Uploads are ignored until you resume. |
| Red | Needs attention | The last upload could not be posted. Open the row to see why — usually a missing permission. |
| Red | Over limit | The channel is past your tier's limit. Remove another channel or upgrade. |
Once you are watching more than five channels a **filter box** appears above the list — type any part of a creator's name, handle, or target channel to narrow it down.
## Settings
| Setting | What it does |

| Announce | Which kinds of upload to post: **Videos**, **Shorts**, **Live** streams and **Premieres**. Turn off Shorts to keep a busy creator from filling your channel. |

**How these messages are delivered.** Every announcement posts through a bot-owned webhook. With no custom identity it uses the bot's own name and avatar, so it looks like a normal bot message. The bot needs **Send Messages**, **Embed Links** and **Manage Webhooks** in the target channel — and **Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles** if you set a ping role.
## Placeholders
These work in any part of a YouTube message — content, title, description, fields and footer.

## Tier limits

Once every slot is in use, the card tells you which tier watches more and the **Add channel** button becomes **Upgrade for more channels**, which opens the plan comparison. At VIP there is nothing above it, so the button simply asks you to remove a channel first.
If your tier drops below the number of channels you have, nothing is deleted. The extra rows are marked **Over limit** and stop posting until you remove a channel or upgrade — your messages and settings are still there waiting.
Watching 30 channels will not flood your server or hit Discord's limits. Announcements to the same Discord channel are spaced a few seconds apart, so even a burst of simultaneous uploads arrives in an orderly queue.
## Troubleshooting
**A row is stuck on Connecting.** Give it a few minutes — the connection is confirmed by YouTube, not by the bot. If it stays amber for more than an hour, remove the channel and add it again.
**Every row says Checking instead of Connected.** That's expected on a server without instant alerts configured, and it isn't a fault — uploads still post, just on a periodic check rather than the moment they go live.
**A row says Needs attention.** Open it and read the note at the top: it names what failed. Almost always the bot is missing **Send Messages** or **Embed Links** in the target channel, or the channel was deleted.
**A video was posted twice.** It shouldn't be — each video is announced once per watched channel, even though YouTube re-notifies the bot whenever a creator edits a title or description. If you genuinely see a duplicate, check whether the same creator is in your list twice under different URLs.
**Shorts are still coming through.** Turn off **Shorts** under **Announce** and save. Very short regular videos are occasionally read as Shorts; that's the one edge case in the detection.
